The Lions Family: Lioness Clubs, Leo Clubs & Campus Lions Clubs
When the Lions Clubs were first implemented, they were only open to males that were interested in changing the world. However, as times changed, the club started to offer many other branches in their club that are all considered to be a family member of the Lions Club. One of these is the Lioness Club. This is the Lions Club that is for women. However, as the clubs are beginning to branch out, there are men being accepted, especially if they have no chapter of the Lions Club in their community. These men and women are working for the same aspects of the world and are just as successful as the father club at bringing about change that is going to make the world a better place.
The Leo Clubs are open to those that are considered youth. They were first organized into the world in 1957 as people decided that the youth also needed a way to help the world should they so choose to do so. The Leo stands for leadership, experience and opportunity. Those that are a apart of this program usually grow up to become strong leaders in their community that really do make a difference in the world. The club is basically there to promote youths to make a stand and let their voice be heard and to take their idea and make them into something that is going to benefit the greater good. This is open to all youths that are at least twelve years old, which is the minimum age to enter. The maximum age is thirty years old, however, most chapters usually impose a younger maximum age so that these members can go on to become members of the Lions or Lioness Clubs. These clubs are held to the same purpose and rules as the main club, just with younger members. Becoming a member means having to be asked to join or simply expressing an interest.
The Campus Lions Clubs are those that are located on the university and college campuses around the world. Usually the members of these are those that are transferring from a local Leo Club that they belonged to. The purpose of the Campus Lions Club are to promote the general welfare of the community and improve upon it. However, they are also about encouraging professional skills in the people that are members as well. Those that are members of these are usually some of the brightest leaders that the college has to offer and many times go on to do great things after their graduation from college.
The Lions Club has come a long way from only men being allowed to join and make the changes to local and global communities. Now with all the other clubs of the Lions, they are addressing almost each demographic that they can and allowing them the opportunity to make a difference in the world as well. There are many that begin their Lions Club time at a young age and are present throughout the rest of their life and it is because of these people that so many opportunities are available to those that are underprivileged.
